Wesley Earl Craven was an American film director, writer, producer, and actor. He was known for his pioneering work in the genre of horror films, particularly slasher films, where he mixed horror cliches with humor and satire. His impact on the genre was considered prolific and influential. Due to the success and cultural impact of his works in the horror film genre, Craven has been called a “Master of Horror”. He is best known for creating A Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream, featuring the characters of Freddy Krueger, Nancy Thompson, Ghostface, and Sidney Prescott. His other notable films include The Last House on the Left, The Hills Have Eyes, Swamp Thing, The Serpent and the Rainbow, Shocker, The People Under the Stairs, Vampire in Brooklyn, Music of the Heart, and Red Eye.

About Wes Craven
Director who introduced the world to the terrifying Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street series and redefined the horror genre with his semi-satirical horror/comedy Scream films. He also directed the horror films The Hills Have Eyes, The Last House on the Left, Red Eye, and Wes Craven’s New Nightmare.
He worked as a professor of English at Westminster College and humanities at Clarkson College of Technology before landing his first film job as a sound editor for a New York City post-production company.
In 1995, he received a Life Career Award from The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films.
He was married to Bonnie Broecker from 1964 to 1969 and Mimi Craven from 1982 to 1987. He married his third wife, Iya Labunka, in 2004. He had two children, Jonathan and Jessica.
In the Scream franchise, Neve Campbell starred as the lead character Sidney Prescott. In A Nightmare on Elm Street, Robert Englund played the evil Freddy Krueger who would chase you down in your dreams when you fell asleep.
