Karl Ulrich Schnabel was an Austrian pianist, and the son of pianist Artur Schnabel and operatic contralto and lieder singer Therese Behr.

He was a student at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik from 1922 until 1926, studying under classical pianist Leonid Kreutzer and Russian composer Paul Juon.
He managed a Massachusetts electronic laboratory during World War II as part of his war efforts on behalf of the United States.
His father was revered pianist Artur Schnabel and his mother was famed operatic contralto and lieder singer Therese Behr.
He fled Berlin in 1933 after Adolf Hitler assumed control.
