James Adolph Westphal was an American academic, scientist, engineer, inventor and astronomer and Director of Caltech’s Palomar Observatory from 1994 through 1997.
About James Westphal
Scientist and astronomer who helped design the Hubble Space telescope. He was also the Director of Caltech’s Palomar Observatory from 1994 through 1997.
He attended the California Institute of Technology in 1961.
He helped design a telescope which is now in the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum collection.
He grew up in Oklahoma, and used to work as an engineer.
The telescope he worked on was named after astronomer Edwin Hubble.
