Before Fame

He earned dual degrees–Bachelor’s and Master’s–from the University of Minnesota in 1950 and 1952.

Achievement

He was Indiana University’s first Dean of Latino Affairs, a position he held until 1981.

Family Life

He was born in Guatemala, but raised in the Midwest.

Associations

He taught briefly at Duke University in North Carolina where entrepreneur Bill Gross once studied.
