About David Jenkins
Church of England cleric who became an honorary assistant bishop in the Diocese of Ripon and Leeds after his retirement.
He served as a staff officer at General Headquarters in India after World War II.
He was the Bishop of Durham from 1984 until 1994 and in 2006, he was banned from preaching in some of his local churches for using the words “bloody” and “damn” in a sermon.
He was raised in Bromley, Kent. He was married to Stella Mary Peet from 1949 up until her death in 2008. They had four children together.
He was a major critic of the policies of Margaret Thatcher.
