About David Bacon
Remembered best for his role as Bob Barton in the 1943 film serial The Masked Marvel, Bacon is also recognized for his work in Someone to Remember, The Boss of Big Town, and several other movies of the early 1940s.
Early in his career, he played a small role in the George Montgomery and Maureen O’Hara film Ten Gentlemen from West Point.
He died at the age of twenty-nine after emerging from a car he was driving and appearing to be suffering from a stab wound. Over half a century after his death, his murder remained unsolved.
The son of one-time Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Gaspar G. Bacon, he spent his youth in Barnstable and Boston, Massachusetts. After relocating to Los Angeles, California, he married Austrian vocalist Greta Keller; the union served as a shield against a closed-minded entertainment industry, as he was gay and she was a lesbian.
Howard Hughes initially intended to cast Bacon in the role of Billy the Kid in the 1943 film The Outlaw; however, the role ultimately went to Jack Buetel.
