Charles Elvin Powell was a multi-sport professional athlete as an NFL football player, professional boxer, and Minor League baseball player. Powell was born in Texas. He and his younger brother Art Powell, an NFL wide receiver for the New York Titans and Oakland Raiders in the 1960s, grew up in the Logan Heights area of San Diego, California. Powell played professional baseball and football as well as boxed. His greatest success was as an NFL player and a boxer, even boxing against Muhammad Ali.

About Charlie Powell
Former NFL player who played defensive end in the league for five seasons between 1952 and 1961. He also spent time playing minor league baseball and had 39 professional fights as a boxer.
After excelling at four sports in high school, he had offers from college football programs and the Harlem Globetrotters, but played minor league baseball instead.
After one season in the minors, he started his NFL career. Nineteen years old at the time, he was the youngest person to ever play in the league.
His brother was AFL and NFL standout Art Powell.
